"Good Omen"
1931
The subject of this work is an imagined abode of immortals, but the depiction of the reflection in the water, the rocky mountains, and the trees make it seem quite real.
Shunkyo climbed mountains from a young age and engaged in spiritual training; only from him can one perceive the combination of freshness and great spirituality such as that found in this work.
Image Yamamoto Shunkyo:
Born in Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture, in 1871. With the traditional styles of the Maruyama-Shijo School as his foundation, Shunkyo adopted techniques from Western painting and photography to establish his own style incorporating masculine composition and vivid colors.
