Nabatame Koichi

    Full of Blossoms2012 165.0×278.0 cm
    This work depicts a weeping cherry tree full of beautiful blossoms. The black gate is strengthened by gentle pink blossoms. This work was produced based on a weeping cherry tree in Kaku‐nodate Town, Akita Prefecture, and the gate of Rikugi‐en, a prefectural park in Tokyo. The spring landscape is clearly expressed in a poetic, fantastic atmosphere.

Nabatame Koichi

1933‐
Nabatame Koichi was born in Ibaraki Prefecture. He began to paint Japanese paintings at the age of 15, influenced by his father, who was also a painter. While still a high school student, he won his first award at the Inten Exhibition, and in the following year, won his first award at the Nitten Exhibition. After taking a job for a company, he continued to paint and began learning from Matsuo Toshio in 1972. He has continued to actively paint for Inten and has received several awards. He has acquainted himself with the painting skills of landscape paintings and kacho‐ga (flower and bird paintings), and has developed a delicate, clear and elegant style based on his strict sketching.
