Whispers of Japanese Paintings
March 1 (Thu) ‐ May 31 (Thu), 2018
The laughter of those who are joyfully looking at one another, the songs of birds gathering in trees, the sounds of a waterfall flowing down swiftly…when you are appreciating Japanese paintings, you can sometimes recognize these sounds.
Of course, there are no sounds in pictures. Carefully facing a work and enhancing your imagination, however, can make help you feel various sounds, as if you are entering the world of the painting. Ruminating on particular voices and sounds is very interesting. When you do this, you can see through the painter’s eyes and understand their intent, allowing for a deeper appreciation of the world of Japanese painting.
This exhibition will display several works, selecting from masterpieces by Yokoyama Taikan and Takeuchi Seiho. In the calm exhibition room, by listening carefully to the works, you may be able to appreciate the hidden sounds. We hope that you will fully enjoy such an experience.
