All Stars of Japanese Painting
Attractive Characters Depicted by Masters
June 1 (Wed) – August 30 (Tue), 2022
In Japanese paintings, various individuals are depicted, including historical figures from Japan and China, well-known celebrities of the time, major characters from traditional Japanese dramas, no or kabuki, and mythical beings such as hermits and gods. Various animals can also be seen, including real creatures like tigers, monkeys and peacocks, and mythical creatures like dragons. Such scenes coming to life aim to please the viewer. These characters are found in numerous works because they have unique personalities and qualities, thus inspiring painters to depict them, drawing the viewer’s attention.
This exhibition will display human beings and animals depicted by masters of modern Japanese painting, who are rightly referred to as stars of the Japanese art circle. In addition to the line-up of painters, different characters in works will be together. We hope that you fully enjoy this All-Star exhibition.

Atelier
—Where Japanese paintings are created—
For a painter, an atelier is a work place in which the painter spends much of the day, and it is also a place for him to train himself to create something new. This exhibition will display works, showing how painters painted the works in their ateliers and what they adhere to.
