- Aesthetic World to Enjoy through Five Senses -
Attraction of Japanese Paintings
December 1 (Tue), 2015 ‐ February 29 (Mon), 2016
Modern Japanese painters created numerous masterpieces depicting tasteful landscapes, seasonal plants and flowers, and vivid animals, with their keen sensibility. Among these, there are works that not only meet the eyes, but also strike a deep chord in the heart and arouse the five senses. Some of these are landscape paintings that let the viewer feel the warm wind in spring, the cold rain in autumn and even the wet atmosphere. Some are kacho-ga (flower and bird paintings) with an atmosphere that gives off the smells of the flowers and whistles of the birds. And some are animal paintings depicting the fur so delicately that the viewer is inspired to touch and confirm the texture.
The five senses are sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch. This exhibition will showcase works that stimulate the five senses, and that have been selected from the numerous masterpieces the museum houses by modern Japanese painters, such as Yokoyama Taikan, Takeuchi Seiho, Sakakibara Shiho and Hashimoto Kansetsu. We are sure that you will feel a great attraction to Japanese paintings by appreciating the exhibits with an unusual viewpoint. View and Feel the great works, and enjoy the aesthetic world of Japanese paintings.
