The museum has established the Adachi Museum of Art Award, given at each Inten Exhibition, in order to help nurture promising Japanese painters. This exhibition will display our contemporary Japanese painting collection in turn, and will include the works that have won the Adachi Award, masterpieces by Inten regular members including Miyasako Masaaki, and noteworthy works by younger painters who will lead the next era of art history.
The 102nd Inten Exhibition
October 14 (Sat) – Nov 5 (Sun), 2017
The Japan Art Institute (Inten) was established in 1898, based on the ideals of Okakura Tenshin, who preached the creation of a new Japanese painting style. After his death, Yokoyama Taikan re‐organized the institute in 1914, taking over Tenshin’s desires. Since then, Inten has played a great role in the innovation of modern Japanese paintings. This exhibition will display about 100 works that are fresh and full of originality, mainly by Inten regular members who have taken over the institute’s tradition and history.
