The Whole of Yokoyama Taikan
--Supreme Art Seen in 100 Masterpieces--

Yokoyama Taikan (1868-1958) was the leader of modern Japanese painters, drawing the Japanese art world from the Meiji and Taisho Eras to the Showa Era. During his almost 70-year career, he always flourished in the front lines of the art world, leaving numerous masterpieces in modern art history. Today, 60 years have passed since his death, and he is still honored unfadingly.
Held with the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Adachi Museum of Art, this exhibition will showcase the Taikan collection, a peculiar feature of the museum. The museum has held Taikan Exhibitions in a large scale every ten years, but this exhibition, which will be held in the Annex for the first time, will be the largest ever.
From his breakthrough work, Selflessness, a masterpiece in the morotai method, Towing a Boat, the great work that symbolizes the museum’s Taikan collection, Autumn Leaves, eight works including Mountain after a Shower and Summer: Four Seasons of the Sea from Twenty Scenes of the Sea and Mt. Fuji, a series of works celebrating his 50-year painting career, to masterpieces of his later years, Sacred Mt. Fuji in Summer and Distant Landscape, this special exhibition will exhibit 100 works* by Yokoyama Taikan. This will be an excellent opportunity for you to have a panoramic view into the whole of his career, and the whole of the museum’s Taikan collection.
