    Spring of Ravine1975 168.8×350.0 cm
This work depicts a landscape at a time when spring has come to the deep mountains. A line of water is falling from the rocks, and cherry blossoms are seen on the mountain. A spring haze envelops the surroundings, and the landscape appears golden under the warm, gentle sunshine. This gives a divine atmosphere, in contrast to a simple landscape painting.

Goto Sumio

1930‐2016
Goto Sumio was born in Chiba Prefecture. He was given painting lessons by Ito Seiko, while undergoing religious training as a Buddhist priest. He later studied under Yamamoto Kyujin and Tanaka Seihyo. He planned his painting ideas while traveling from temple to temple in various areas, and released numerous works featuring these temples. He also developed his style with works depicting China, which he visited for examinations. He captured the seasonal nature of Japan and China with his keen eyes, which contributes to his creation of solemn, clear pictures.
