Japanese Painters with Anniversary Celebrations in 2023
March 1 (Wed) ‐ May 31 (Wed), 2023
Adachi Museum of Art owns numerous masterpieces by modern Japanese painters, including Yokoyama Taikan as the main of our collection. Most of them were collected by Adachi Zenko (1899-1990), founder of the museum. The museum has continued to enhance its collection based on Zenko’s effort.
This exhibition will showcase works by painters reaching milestone anniversaries of the years of their births or deaths in 2023, including Taikan, Kawai Gyokudo, Kobayashi Kokei, Yasuda Yukihiko, and Hashimoto Kansetsu. We will display Taikan masterpieces, arranging them based on turning points of painting and by historical periods. Regarding the works by Gyokudo, Kokei, Yukihiko and Kansetsu, we will arrange their masterpieces in their earlier or/and later days. Those memorial works are essential in talking about the modern Japanese painting. We hope that you will fully enjoy these various masterpieces, of which the museum is very proud.

Shimane Prefectural Flower, Peony
Peony, which is called “the king of flowers,” has long been favored as a subject for painting. Modern Japanese painters also widely depict the peony, which is the Shimane Prefectural flower. This exhibition will feature works of this flower. We hope you will appreciate the elegant appearance of peony through these paintings.
