Invitation to Great Paintings
The World of Heartwarming Japanese Paintings

December 1 (Fri), 2023 ‐ February 29 (Thu), 2024
Delicate and gentle colors, beautifully flowing drawing, compositions with blank enlivened spaces are often taken as characteristics of Japanese painting. The expression style in a modest and quiet manner can also be felt in appreciating Japanese painting. Works with these features can strike a chord deep within the viewers’ hearts. Although some works on the subjects of literature and Buddhism are actually a little difficult to understand, there are certainly others that give a directly heartwarming atmosphere, such as works of lovely-looking animals, portraits at which the viewer cannot help smiling, and calm landscape paintings making the viewer feel the wind as if it’s blowing. Our collection of Japanese paintings includes many such gentle works.
This exhibition will mainly display those works, which would help the viewer heal their hearts, out of the masterpieces of the modern Japanese painting the museum houses. We hope that you will have a good heartwarming time through these great works.
