Selection of Contemporary Japanese Paintings III

Jan 29(Fri), 2016 – Apr 25 (Mon), 2016
The museum has established the Adachi Museum of Art Award, given at each Inten Exhibition, in order to help nurture promising Japanese painters. This exhibition will display our contemporary Japanese painting collection in turn, and will include the works that have won the Adachi Award, masterpieces by Inten regular members including Miyasako Masaaki, and noteworthy works by younger painters who will lead the next era of art history.

Adachi Museum of Art, known for its modern Japanese painting collection that includes works by Yokoyama Taikan, has recently made efforts to expand its collection of contemporary Japanese paintings.
The museum has established the “Adachi Museum Award” at the Inten Exhibition (Japan Art Institute Exhibition), and purchases the winning works. It has also collected other masterpieces by painters of great individuality who are active in the contemporary Japanese art world. The museum currently houses 250 works by 65 contemporary Japanese painters.
We will display messages from the painters along with each exhibit, as we believe that knowing the painter’s thoughts will deepen the viewers’ understanding of the works.
