Selection of Contemporary Japanese Paintings Ⅲ The Beauty of Colors
Date: Wed, Nov 18, 2026 – Mid, Mar, 2027
We will hold an exhibition focusing on colors unique to Japanese painting. Mineral pigments, which are used as the base material for Japanese painting, are made from crushed minerals. They have the unique, granulated texture and create delicate colors that vary based on the size of the grains. Painters require skill and patience to use these pigments effectively; painters have to wrap over colors little by little, dissolving the pigments into nikawa, animal glue. The beauty of the colors is one of the attractions of the Japanese painting. Skilled painters can produce various color works by making use of the unique features of mineral pigments.
This exhibition will arrange the works according to the main colors of each picture, focusing on the different colors of contemporary Japanese painting. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue—the colors vary exquisitely. We hope that you will enjoy the profound beauty of colors.
