The world of Japanese painting sometimes gives a complex atmosphere, but never like this. There are many works that make the viewer feel warm and gentle, such as those depicting humorous people, nostalgic landscapes and lovely animals.
The Adachi Museum of Art houses great works by masters who led the modern Japanese art world, including Yokoyama Taikan and Takeuchi Seiho. Even among their works, there are numerous few works that provide warm feelings.
This exhibition will display such works, including an animal painting depicting two small dogs peacefully nestling with one another, a flower and bird painting depicting a heart-warming scene of parent and baby birds, a portrait depicting hermits happily celebrating their longevity, and a landscape painting that has an easy atmosphere. We will display a wide selection of heartwarming works from our collection, and we hope that you will spend some time appreciating the works during the cold winter.

Modern Japanese painters, including Uemura Shoen and Terashima Shimei, who are famous for bijin‐ga, focused their attention on beautiful women in various areas as a painting theme, for example, glorious maiko （young girls in beautiful kimono performing traditional Japanese dance while wearing）, clever and bright women who flourished in history, and pretty women whom the painters encountered in their daily lives. We will introduce such beautiful Japanese woman through the masterpieces of bijin‐ga.
